Scientific and Technical Communicator

About QC Design:

QC Design is a quantum computing startup that designs useful and scalable quantum computers. We are on a mission to enable mankind to build the ultimate computing machines limited only by the laws of physics.

We’re a 10–15 person team of scientists and engineers specialising in quantum computing with strengths in quantum software, hardware, and fault-tolerance. We’ve built not only proprietary architectures for scalable quantum computing but also Plaquette, the world’s most powerful quantum error correction and fault-tolerance design software. Plaquette is being used by top quantum hardware manufacturers to design fault-tolerance architectures and logical-qubit demonstrations.

Role and responsibilities

In this role, you will support QC Design in communicating our scientific and technical advances with the broader quantum computing community through grant applications, technical papers or blog posts, and participation in industry events.

Specifically, you will:

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of QC Design's fault-tolerance design software and architectures.

  • Identify relevant public-funding opportunities and work with the R&D team to draft compelling applications focussing on the scientific and technical writing.

  • Foster strategic partnerships with hardware manufacturers and academic groups via the resulting funded projects.

  • Keep in regular touch with the various funding agencies that fund our work and send relevant updates and milestones over to them.

  • Lead the communication efforts about QC Design’s software and architecture advancements via technical papers, blog posts and other relevant channels.

  • Develop high-quality scientific and technical communication materials.

  • Participate in industry conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance awareness about our offerings.

What we’re looking for

  • PhD in physics, mathematics or computer science. Familiarity with quantum computing is a plus.

  • Demonstrated success at drafting peer-reviewed articles. Experience in writing grant applications is a plus.

  • Ability to write complex information clearly and concisely and to effectively communicate complex scientific findings.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn fast and adapt to the changing demands of a startup environment.

  • Interest in learning broadly about the quantum computing industry.

  • Virtues and soft skills: ownership, high standards, enthusiasm, resourcefulness, follow through, collaboration, kindness.

What we offer:

  • In this role, you will become an expert more generally in the landscape of the quantum hardware industry, and in particular in fault-tolerance, which is the most important topic in quantum computing at the moment.

  • As a part of the core team of an early-stage startup, you have an opportunity to learn fast and to make a major impact on our products and the future of quantum computing.

  • We offer a competitive salary and top-of-market stock options.

  • We offer flexibility in terms of working hours and work from home options, allowing you to work in a way that best suits your needs.

  • We strive to maintain a great working environment for everyone involved.
